News Release: The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to offer a Post Graduate Diploma in Smart Education (PGDSE) to interns in the UBEC Teacher Internship Program. This strategic partnership aims to enhance the capacity of teachers in basic education, equipping them with modern teaching techniques and skills required for smart education. The event which was held in Abuja, the Federal Capital City, on Wednesday 2nd October 2024, had in attendance the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Chairman of Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon. Sunday Amuna, and other Executive Chairmen of SUBEBs across the country as well as the federal ministry of education. The PGDSE program is designed to improve the quality of education in Nigeria, aligning with UBEC's objective of providing quality basic education to all Nigerian children. The program will focus on developing teachers' skills in instructional technology, educational management, and research methods. NOUN's expertise in open and distance learning will ensure that the program reaches teachers across Nigeria, regardless of geographical location. The partnership demonstrates UBEC's commitment to teacher development and its recognition of the critical role teachers play in shaping Nigeria's future. The MOU signing ceremony marks the beginning of an innovative collaboration between UBEC, SUBEBs, the NOUN and the Federal Ministry of Education.
